After a quiet end to 2009, I consciously decided to take on more commission work to keep challenged on my off-time. One of a slew of new projects took me back to something I find myself doing less of lately, although I do miss it immensely. I decided to work on the Key Art for a new Indie Film titled: MADCAP MABEL.
This piece in particular was a welcomed challenge as it was unfamiliar territory for me (set in the 1930's & during the silent film era) and it didn't have the luxury of working assets. I knew I wanted to take as many nuances from that era (Fluid/Organic shapes within a hard edged frame) but still make it feel fresh and relevant. All said and done, I think it accomplishes what I sought out to do.
