Book Cover Re-Designs

A couple of months ago, I was asked by a friend to take a stab at some cover re-designs for a line of Mystery Novels. For me, this was something I naturally jumped at. I've always found Book-jacket Design to be incredibly fascinating in the same way as Movie Posters. You have to hint at and tell a story with one key visual in a strategic & visually captivating way. This is always challenging, but also uber great when you hit the jackpot.
What I find so inspirational with these three covers is that they touched upon different elements of mystery including a real-crime vibe. From doing some research, I realized how stuck in an established (and often cheesy) look & feel. I automatically was driven to create captivating imagery that told a story and gave a feeling, but would also stand out from the other in it's genre. I quite like the end result on these, and although they may not be used, It was quite the exercise.
