'World of Warcraft' Propaganda Poster Set

wow_poster_set_LazMarquez.png

Prints, Framed Prints and Canvas Prints are NOW ON SALE at my new shop! http://society6.com/lazmarquez

Full Disclosure: Prior to two months ago, I only heard of the modern day legends of 'World of Warcraft'. I knew that it was a huge phenomenon and I knew that one could get lost in this world, never to be seen again. Honestly, the stigma surrounding WoW wasn't terrifying to me. I grew up being obsessed with all kinds of storytelling and the escapism provided from comics and movies. It made sense to me. I just hadn't really delved into the world of desktop gaming. Then two months ago, I jumped into the Warcraft world and though I'm no level 90 Mage just yet, I fell in love with the worlds created. The detail. The complex structures and quests. I immediately understood why the legends were true.

As with anything I immerse myself in, I wanted to learn everything I could. And thanks to one incredible person with a vast amount of knowledge, I was prepared to do what I do. I decided that given the context of the game and my love of the 1950's and the style of World War 2 Propaganda, I would take a stab at representing the different cultures in the game and create a snapshot of their stories. Each of these 4 posters was an attempt to get the feel of these tribes and in some, capture the characters that have impacted them. It was an incredibly fun challenge, each poster taking about a day to create before moving onto the next one. I suppose the best way to end this post is to say that I'm not ashamed that I'll be going home tonight, hopping on my computer and questing in the Underworld.

Movie Reboot Set

RebootSeries_LazMarquez_LR

In the past month or so, the internet has been bursting at the seams with new trailers from some of the biggest and most defining franchises in the science fiction film world. growing up in the 80's and 90's, I remember visiting these worlds and getting lost in what these incredible directors created. Witnessing my first lightsaber fight aboard the Death Star. Losing my breath as I ran for dear life away from a Velociraptor after a tour gone wrong. And racing against the clock to stop a Judgement Day brought on by technology.

It is because of my adoration for those original franchises that I was left ecstatic and hungry for more after seeing the trailers for these "reboots". It's a tough word to use because honestly, some of these are in the same universe. But regardless, it's a studio attempt to restart a franchise and I'm left giddy by the potential here. Each trailer had some amazing visual storytelling and I couldn't help but bring what was seen to life in a new poster set. I wanted to transport the viewers to these worlds and bring to life a specific and defining aspect of the footage that raised the stakes. So here you have it. Our hooded, cross guard lightsaber wielding, mystery man. The dino sight-seeing (via the awesome new Pods) gone wrong. The clock on a familiar old world brought to life in the 80's turned back.

Check out the details of the entire set in the Reboot Set Collection. I hope you enjoy the set and check back soon for more work!

'Jurassic World' Poster Art

JurassicWorld_LazMarquez

It was in 1993 that I first fell in love with dinosaurs. After watching the Steven Spielberg directed film, I decided on my very own that I wanted to become a paleontologist and dig up dinosaur fossils for a living. I could fully envision the beauty and strength of these creatures. I could picture them move and communicate. I could see all of this and fell in love with dinosaurs because for the first time that I could remember, a film brought them to life so truthfully and vividly.

7 Posters in 7 Days- Cult TV: Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D

LazMarquez_SHIELD.png

It's a surprise to absolutely no one that I love comic books. I've been a steady reader since I was a child and still haven't stopped believing in Superheroes. What do I love just as much? Anything that Joss Whedon touches. I first fell in love with Buffy the Vampire Slayer when it came out in the 90's and anything from the Whedonverse that has followed. So when they announced Marvel's Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D, I was excited if not a little worried. It was an ambitious idea. To take a step back from the incredibly successful franchises built in the Marvel Cinematic Universe and really focus on the non-super folks behind the organization. After a rocky first half of the season, I knew why I'd stuck around. Once it got there, it was off and running in beautiful Joss-y glory. Did I mention I love the show?

So when thinking about my 4th poster in this series tackling current Cult TV shows, I knew I had to approach this one. It's filled with so much story and so many possibilities. It's a darker season. The stakes are higher. So the art can be a bit darker. I thought it'd be a walk around the Quinjet. But nope, it proved another challenge... In one day, can I combine all the elements and make something fresh with some new things to say visually. Truth be told, I ran out of time a bit with this bad boy, but I'm still happy I got some pieces I wanted in here.

Don't forget to check out the others in this series in earlier post and come back to check out the final 3!
